Et voilá! Cheers! Bienvenido to this adventure, where we will be discovering the enigma and beauty of the wines of Mexico, as well as the regions that give them life. This article will give you an insight of Valle de Guadalupe, in Baja California, including  remarkably interesting facts about this magic region of Mexico that you need to know if you are a wine lover, too.

Located in the northwest region of Mexico, Valle de Guadalupe is today the most acclaimed Mexican vinicultural reference among national and foreign wine lovers, as well as “wine connoisseurs.”  90% of Mexican wine is produced in Valle de Guadalupe, where currently there are more than 120 wineries; in the last 15 years, some of their fantastic wines have won more than 300 international awards and recognitions.  The dry Mediterranean climate, the water or the lack of it, and the sea breeze give the wines of Valle de Guadalupe their characteristic terroir - an innovative way of making wine that combines experience, curiosity, and experimentation. This land produces select wines: exquisite tempranillos, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, grenache, shiraz, zinfandel, nebbiolo and carignan. They are full-bodied, high-alcohol wines with a perfectly balanced minerality  and abundant red fruits. Unrepeatable and unforgettable wines.

“LA RUTA DEL VINO” (The Wine Route) includes the valleys of Guadalupe, San Antonio de las Minas, Ojos Negros, Santo Tomás, San Vicente, La Grulla, Tanamá, Las Palmas and San Valentín, all of them, with landscapes surrounded by nature that make a perfect excuse for a road trip. Valle de Guadalupe has more than 12,355 acres of vineyards that produce around 2 million cases of wine each year.

Along with the good wine comes great food. The restaurant scene is growing fast, with more than 50 restaurants inValle de Guadalupe. They offer unique and  varied choices of  cuisines for those who enjoy local and fresh products and with them a good selection of wines of the region to pair.  Every year, the “Fiestas de la Vendimia” celebrations are held for 25 days (July-August) where the most important wineries of the area, international chefs and the most prestigious restaurants in Mexico get together to celebrate wine.

Anthony Bourdain referred to the region of Valle de Guadalupe as "a little Tuscany". With more than 1 million visitors a year, (together with Baja California State) has been the second favorite destination of Mexicans (SECTUR, 2016). In 2020, Valle de Guadalupe was  nominated Best Wine Region by Best Readers’ Choice in the United States.
